An application has been lodged this week with Sligo County Council by Kilcumney Arms Hotel Ltd seeking planning permission for 10 one bedroom guest accommodation units at Markree Castle, Collooney.

The application also seeks permission for the upgrade of the existing lane to become a service road; form extension to existing car-parking area; make connection to existing waste-water treatment system and upgrade percolation area and to carry out landscaping and all ancillary site works at Markree Castle.

The castle’s history spans over 350 years, evolving from a strategic 14th-century fort into one of Ireland's most significant luxury estates. One of the largest privately-owned castles in Ireland, Markree Castle stands on a secluded 500-acre estate. Extensive renovations were completed in 2017, allowing this gothic masterpiece to reclaim its position as one of the finest historic castles and wedding venues in the land.

The castle's 31 en-suite bedrooms have been finished to the highest standards in luxury hotel accommodation, boasting all the modern amenities of a quality hotel but in a stunning 17th century authentic Irish Castle.
