In a motion before the November meeting of the Borough District of Sligo, Cllr Fergal Nealon called on the local authority to write to the National Transport Authority as well as Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien and Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht and at the Department of Transport Jerry Buttimer calling for the S2 bus service to add a stop at Sligo airport.

Cllr Nealon informed the meeting a petition currently has in excess of 250 signatures seeking for the airport to be included on the bus route.

Cllr Nealon noted there is currently in excess of 200 people employed in the airport and surrounding businesses.

"There is an obvious need for the bus to stop at Sligo Airport. It’s badly, badly needed.”

In a separate motion Cllr Nealon called on the local authority to write to Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, “To address the need for a primary care centre in Strandhill.”

Cllr Nealon told the meeting, “Strandhill is the most rapidly growing village in Sligo. It has doubled in size over the last 20 years yet we don’t have a primary care centre. This is something coming to me from local GPs.”

Cllr Arthur Gibbons supported the motion saying, “It is something that is needed.”

Those sentiments were echoed by Cllr Ann Higgins who said, “The need and demand is there. It is a no brainer.”
