Rural Sligo communities set to benefit from new weekday morning bus services
The Sligo ChampionThe announcement of a new transport service, TFI Anseo, which will soon be introduced in the locality servicing Glencar, Teesan, Calry and Newtownmanor following a positive and productive meeting with Local Link staff from the regional office has been welcomed by Cllr Marie Casserly.
TFI Anseo is a new transport model being developed by the National Transport Authority, designed to deliver a more flexible, reliable, and connected service for local residents. Currently the TFI Anseo programme is operational in Achill Island & Curraun Peninsula, Co Mayo, Killarney town, Co Kerry and North-east Limerick city.
The plan includes a weekday morning bus service into Sligo for 9am, with a return service at 5pm. This will give people a dependable option for getting to work, attending appointments, accessing education, doing their shopping, meeting friends, and staying connected.
During the day, the bus will be servicing the local community through a Demand Response Service, which can be booked in advance. This will cover Glencar, Teesan, Calry, and Newtownmanor, with a dedicated bus helping people access shops, healthcare services, social activities, and other essential services.
The aim of TFI Anseo is to create a strong and reliable transport link for rural communities, connecting people to Sligo while also supporting travel within the local area.
Cllr Casserly welcomed the announcement, describing it as, “Very positive news for our community.”
She expressed her sincere thanks to the Local Link team and to everyone in the community who provided data, feedback, statistics, and to all those who campaigned for improved rural transport. Their efforts were instrumental in helping to secure and shape this important project.
“This is a very welcome and positive development for our area,” Cllr Casserly said. “This service will make a real difference to people’s daily lives, helping them attend appointments, do their shopping, meet friends, and remain connected to their community. I would encourage everyone to support and use the service when it launches so we can ensure its long-term success and future growth.”
Cllr Casserly confirmed she will continue to keep the community updated as further information becomes available.
