Works have begun this week on a range of improvements at Mitchell Curley Park, bringing upgraded play facilities and new fitness options for local families and park users.

Cllr Fergal Nealon said the project reflects feedback he has received from residents since his election and welcomed the start of works on site.

The toddler play area will be upgraded with new fencing, rocking horses, a new climbing frame and slide unit, along with a fresh bark surface. In the main playground, older equipment will be removed and replaced with a new hexagon-shaped swing set, a swinging basket, a climbing frame, and a climbing arch. All remaining equipment will also receive maintenance and upgrades.

The playground works are expected to be completed within three to four weeks.

At the same time, work will commence on a new calisthenics gym within the park, which will provide an outdoor exercise space for teenagers and adults and is expected to be completed by the end of March.

Councillor Nealon thanked the Sligo Parks Department for their cooperation and ongoing work on the project.

“Mitchell Curley Park is an important space for the local community, especially for young families. Many residents raised the need for improved facilities, and I’ve worked closely with the Parks Department to help make these upgrades happen. It’s very welcome to see the work now underway,” he said.
