New planning permission application lodged for Lidl supermarket in Tubbercurry
The Sligo ChampionLidl Ireland have lodged a fresh application with Sligo County Council for planning permission at Circular Rd, Tubbercurry. Amendments are sought to the original application granted permission by An Bord Pleanala in July 2023.
The new application seeks permission for:
The demolition of the existing single storey building.
Construction of a single storey replacement building for a retail warehouse measuring 919 sqm of gross floor space.
Associated and incidental modifications of site layout above and below ground accommodate the replacement building/service/utility connections.
Planning permission was originally granted by Sligo County Council in November 2021 before an appeal was lodged with An Bord Pleanala by Surlis’s Supervalu with the view expressed that there is insufficient demand for an additional supermarket in the town and permission for this development would undermine existing retail in the town leading to an increase in vacancy.
An Bord Pleanala rejected the appeal, expressing the view the development would not impact adversely on the vitality or viability of the town centre.
A total of 16 conditions were attached to An Bord Pleanala’s decision to grant permission for the development. These conditions fell under categories such as clarity; visual amenity; protection of the environment; sustainable transportation; residential amenity; traffic safety and orderly development; public health and to safeguard residential amenities of property in the vicinity.
Sligo County Council have indicated a decision will be made by October 5 on the new application.
