Meeting hears calls for upgrades to improve ‘terrible condition’ of Abbey Street
The Sligo ChampionAt the recent meeting of Sligo Borough Municipal District Cllr Declan Bree sought an update in relation to improving the quality of the road surface adjacent to Sligo Abbey.
Cllr Bree told the meeting the road “Is in a terrible condition and clearly needs to be resurfaced.”
Cllr Bree referenced the reply he received to his motion when he said, “I note from the reply I have received from the Director of Services that significant works will be carried out on the road as part of the Public Realm enhancement scheme.” Stressing the need for the issue to be addressed urgently, Cllr Bree said, "The downside of the reply is that Public Realm enhancement works will probably not commence until 2027, and that is subject to approval from the Department. “I also note that the Roads Department could consider resurfacing the street under the Council’s roads programme. “In this context I would ask that the road be examined so as to ascertain if any temporary works could be carried out to improve the surface of the road in advance of the Public Realm works being approved.” Article Funded by the Local Democracy Reporting Scheme.
