Mayo family brings €3m investment to area as new Centra shop opens this week

By Charlotte Davis, Irish Independent

Mayo is set to welcome a new family-run business as Moloney’s Centra Ballina has officially opened its doors.

The shop, located on the Sligo Road, is part of a larger development with the attached Moloney’s Maxol Forecourt petrol station due to open in the next few days.

The business is being led by Bryan, Edel, and John Moloney, who shared news of the opening on their social media and said they were delighted to be announcing the opening.

Already familiar faces in the community through Moloney’s Supervalu in Bunree, the family has reinvested €3m into the local area through their new business venture.

The shop has also created 20 new jobs for Ballina.

Moloney’s Centra will be open from 7am until 10pm Monday through to Saturday, and 8am to 9pm on Sundays.

The family expressed their gratitude to local tradespeople and businesses for their support during the refurbishment of the site over recent months.

The shop occupies the former site of Judge’s Shop and Filling Station, which the Moloney family acquired in July 2025.

Since then, works have transformed the space and breathed new life into it.

Local representatives have sent their best wishes to the Moloney family as they celebrate the opening of their new shop.

Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, and Ballina TD, Dara Calleary, congratulated the family on the opening, while Senator Mark Duffy described the new shop as “a great boost for the Sligo Road area,” wishing all involved every success.
