HSE seek to have Sligo University Hospital fitted with solar panels
The Sligo ChampionAn application has been lodged by the HSE with Sligo County Council seeking planning permission for the installation of approximately 2,300 photovoltaic (PV) panels, each measuring 2,000mm x 1,000mm, resulting in a combined coverage area of approximately 4,600 m² across the roofs of existing buildings within the campus of Sligo University Hospital.
if granted permission it will become one of Sligo’s largest solar panel roof installations.
A photovoltaic panel, more commonly referred to as a solar panel, contains PV cells that absorb the sun's light and convert solar energy into electricity.
Permission is sought for the panels to be placed on the roof of existing buildings within the hospital campus, including a 1940’s institutional building of regional significance listed under the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage. Other buildings that it is sought to place the panels on the roofs of are: the recently completed Specialist Mental Health Unit and the Northwest Hospice, which is currently under construction.
Sligo County Council have indicated a decision will be made by October 15.
