Historic buildings in Sligo to benefit from €183,295 in conservation support
The Sligo ChampionFunding to the tune of €183,295 has been allocated under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2026 to 24 projects in Sligo. Nationally 696 projects will benefit from funding totalling €8.1m.
Welcoming the allocation of funding, Sligo/Leitrim TD Deputy Frank Feighan said, “I want to thank the heritage officer and her team at Sligo Co Council for submitting the successful applications and to the committees who of course must now raise the match funding.
“It is terrific to see these older buildings, rich in history and built heritage coming back to life, representing an effective partnership between the State, individuals and communities around the country.”
With €8.1 million being made available in 2026, the scheme will help property owners to conserve and enhance historic buildings and streetscapes, while also helping to preserve and develop traditional building skills. This year’s grants will be used to repair, restore and protect historic structures from traditional homes to landmark public buildings across Ireland, in our cities, towns and villages, and across the wider countryside.
The Built Heritage Investment Scheme is funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage’s National Built Heritage Service and is administered by the Local Authorities.
