There has been positive news to begin the new year in relation to three primary care centres in Co Sligo following updates provided to Minister for State Frank Feighan by Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill.

Minister Feighan had been seeking clarity and updates around the progress or otherwise of Primary Care developments in some of the key areas around Sligo.

The provision of a primary care centre for Tubbercurry, Co Sligo, will be via the HSE Capital Plan. A detailed design of this facility has been completed and it is expected to commence the tender process for the project in this quarter. Subject to a successful tender process it is expected that construction will commence later in 2026.

The project for the final phase of the capital programme at Nazareth House, Sligo for the provision of a Primary Care Centre is currently in design. As part of that process prior to commencing the tender process, a review of the proposed design will be undertaken in line with Infrastructure Guidelines Gate 2.

Service requirements are to be established for Collooney Primary Care Centre, following which a proposal may be progressed with infrastructure works in line with the Infrastructure Guidelines.

“The provision of modern primary care facilities are very important in rural Ireland settings; in many cases it reduces the demand on people travelling into Sligo for treatments and consultations.

“I will continue to press the Minister and the HSE to progress these modern primary care units which will improve access to GPs and provide greater patient safety in a modern medical setting”, concluded Minister Feighan.
