An update provided by Sligo County Council at the recent Sligo-Drumcliffe Municipal District meeting in relation to two capital projects in Rosses Point has been welcomed by Cllr Thomas Walsh.

Following Cllr Walsh’s motion seeking an update in relation to the projects the meeting heard updates in relation to the outdoor water facility and the beachery.

Construction of the new outdoor water facility at Rosses Point is expected to begin in early 2026. Planning Permission was sought for the project from An Bord Pleanala in 2023 and was granted approval in 2024. Subsequently a single point design team, led by Jennings O'Donovan was appointed. Detailed design for the project is complete and a tender for the construction of the facility was published on October 24. Construction on site is expected to commence in Q1 2026.

Welcoming the news, Cllr Walsh said, “This project will provide facilities including lockers, showers, state of the art toilets, orientation area, outdoor water facility and changing areas which are so badly needed at Rosses Point.

"Rosses Point Beach continues to get busier with water users, walkers, visitors each year and we must have appropriate facilities in place to meet the needs to their needs.”

In relation to ‘The Beachery’ project, the meeting heard €50,000 was allocated to bring a project to design and planning stage for the old beachery building at the beach front.

Cllr Walsh was advised the design team have been appointed by Sligo County Council, and they are continuing to progress the feasibility and preliminary design of this project with a view to having the statutory documents complete by the end of 2025.

Cllr Walsh added, “Both these projects will be a game-changer for Rosses Point, this is something I have raised since I was elected in 2019, and I am delighted to finally see progress on these much-needed capital improvements at the beachfront”.
