A motion proposed before the recent meeting of Ballymote-Tubbercurry Municipal District called for action to be taken in relation to the L6104 at Ranmore, Coolaney which the meeting heard poses a number of threats to motorists with Cllr Dara Mulvey saying, “God help anyone if they go into that river.”

In his motion Cllr Mulvey asked Sligo County Council, “To erect a safety barrier along the exposed river along road L6104 Ranmore, Coolaney, due to the exposed fast flowing deep river which coming from the Coolaney, direction is on a descent along the road.”

The second part of Cllr Mulvey’s motion asked, “That the entrance road to Coolaney L2801 broken white line can be changed to a double white line? There are vehicles passing in and out entering and exiting the village, and it is dangerous for residents exiting their homes and traffic exiting the national mountain bike track road.”

Addressing the meeting Cllr Muvey said, “It is dangerous, the road slopes down. It is not on the gritting route. God helps anyone if they go into the river.”

Cllr Mulvey added, “I am asking if anything can be done. I am five years asking for speed signs to be moved out.” Cllr Mulvey added the broken white lines along the road are causing difficulty for local residents saying, “People can’t safely get out of their houses.”
