Brad Pitt-backed film brings Hollywood to County Sligo
The Sligo ChampionMullaghmore is set to welcome a major Hollywood film production next week, with scenes for the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film Isle of Man due to be filmed in the village on July 16 and 17.
The film centres around the legendary TT races and the Isle of Man itself.
The production stars Channing Tatum, Ciarán Hinds, Eve Hewson, Éanna Hardwicke with Brad Pitt involved as a producer through his production company, Plan B Entertainment. The film has already been shooting at locations connected to the Isle of Man TT races before moving to the spectacular coastal scenery of North Sligo.
Filming will require temporary road closures in Mullaghmore over the two days, and while this may cause some short-term disruption, it also represents a significant opportunity to showcase one of Ireland’s most iconic coastal locations to a global audience.
Sligo County Council have confirmed details of road closures with a statement confirming, “Notice is hereby given of the decision of Sligo County Council to close to public traffic, the L-7101 at Mullaghmore from its junction at the southern point with the L-7102 to its junction at the northern point at the junction with the L-7103.

Cllr Marie Casserly has welcomed the news of the international film crew descending on Sligo next week
“This temporary road closure is necessary to facilitate the safe holding of filming associated with an international feature film. The alternative route for traffic will be via the L-7102/L-7103 and vice versa. The period of closure will be from 7am Thursday, July 16 to 2pm on Friday, July 17 inclusive.”
Local representative Cllr Marie Casserly has welcomed the news of an international film being shot in the location saying it will provide a boost for local businesses.
“I warmly welcome the production to Sligo and wish the cast, crew and everyone involved every success during their time here. Hosting a major international production of this scale is a tremendous vote of confidence in our county as a filming destination.
“The economic benefits extend far beyond the film industry itself. Local accommodation providers, cafés, restaurants, shops and service businesses all benefit from productions like this, while the long-term tourism value of having Sligo featured on screen is immeasurable. Our dramatic coastline and unique landscapes continue to attract international attention, helping to position Sligo as one of Ireland’s premier visitor destinations.”
Cllr Casserly paid tribute to all those behind the scenes who help facilitate such projects saying, “I would also like to acknowledge the work of all those involved in facilitating the filming, including the production team, local businesses, residents, An Garda Síochána and Sligo County Council. Their cooperation is essential in ensuring filming can take place safely while minimising disruption to the local community.”
Cllr Casserly issued a reminder regarding road closures and thanked local residents for their understanding saying, “I encourage everyone to be mindful of the temporary traffic management arrangements over the filming period and thank residents and visitors in advance for their patience. This is an exciting opportunity for Mullaghmore and for Co Sligo, and I look forward to seeing our beautiful coastline showcased on cinema screens around the world.”
