€35,000 allocated for improvements to Knockbeg Road in Collooney
The Sligo ChampionSligo County Council have this week confirmed the allocation of €35,000 for improvements to the Knockbeg Road in Collooney.
Welcoming the allocation of funding Cllr Thomas Walsh commented that Sligo County Council are preparing draft designs for the provision of footpath upgrades and it is the intention of the Council to progress the implementation of works in 2026.
“I have consistently raised the issue of the lack of safe pedestrian access between the N17 and Collooney Centre, the lack of public lighting and lack of speed control infrastructure. Following my recent motion a meeting was held with residents and the Roads Department in Sligo County Council on 23/9/25. Concerns were listened too and it was agreed a design would be funded.
“It has now been agreed that some initial safety works will take place in 2026 and a design for the road will be ready in the coming weeks. I will continue to lobby for additional funding for further works on this dangerous stretch of road.”
Cllr Walsh added, “This road is unsafe for those who walk, cycle and live on it and It is our job to work together to ensure the local community can commute to and from Collooney centre safely.”
