‘Vital’ safety works completed at busy junction in Navan

Safety works have been completed at a busy Navan junction that has long been a concern for local road users in Meath.
Meath County Council installed multiple new stop signs at Fairlands Cross, a junction on the R153 and R150 regional roads, approximately 3km from Kentstown village.
The junction has been a concern for local road users for several years due to poor sightlines and a layout originally designed for much lower traffic volumes.
A number of accidents have occurred at the site in recent years, including three collisions reported by Aontú councillor Emer Tóibín last year alone.
The council has now installed stop signs on every approach to the junction, along with large “SLOW” markings painted on the road surface.
Cllr Tóibín said the improvements are an “important step” in enhancing road safety.
“The newly installed signage and road markings are an important step in improving safety and alerting drivers approaching the cross from all directions,” she said.
“I want to thank the council staff involved in carrying out these works. Safety improvements like this are vital on busy rural junctions such as Fairlands Cross,” the Navan councillor added.
