Traffic calming measures proposed for residential estate in Drogheda

A public consultation has begun on proposed new traffic calming measures for Hazel Lane estate in Drogheda following speed surveys that showed vehicles regularly exceeding the 30km/h limit.

At the December meeting of the Laytown-Bettystown Municipal District, Meath County Council outlined its intention to introduce safety improvements within the estate.

The proposals include the installation of two build-outs, or chicanes, along with associated signage and road markings.

Fianna Fáil councillor Stephen McKee said the scheme was selected after traffic surveys identified speeding as an issue within the estate.

“Meath County Council has told me that the road through Hazel Lane was selected based on the results of speed surveys carried out within the estate, which showed an issue with traffic travelling over the 30km/h speed limit,” he said.

“On that basis, the council is proposing to install two traffic calming chicanes on the avenue to achieve a greater level of compliance with the 30km/h speed limit.”

Drawings and details of the proposed scheme are available for public inspection at Buvinda House in Navan during normal office hours until January 23, or online through the council’s website under ‘Notices and Events’.

Local residents are being invited to engage with the process.

“I encourage residents of Hazel Lane to have their say on the matter. I will be representing the views of local residents at the end of the public consultation period,” he said.
