Traffic calming measures approved for two national schools in Meath

Meath County Council has approved new traffic calming measures for two national schools in the county.
Traffic calming works at Kilmessan National School and Kiltale National School are set to begin, aiming to improve road safety for students.
Senator, Linda Nelson Murray welcomed the news, saying this has been a “key safety concern” for the community.
“It may not be our full wish list, but it’s a great start,” she said. “I’ll continue to work with the Council and councillors on this progress.”
At Kilmessan National Sschool, plans are in place to upgrade the existing pedestrian crossing outside the school to meet current safety standards.
“The works will include the raising of the footpath and installation of a ramp,” Senator Nelson Murray confirmed.
The project is expected to be carried out over the coming months, and will enhance pedestrian safety and slow vehicle speeds in the school zone.
In Kiltale National School, extra traffic calming road signage is scheduled to be installed during the summer months to alert drivers and reduce speed in the vicinity of the school.
Ms Nelson Murray also noted that additional speed counts will be arranged in September and October to assess the effectiveness of the extra measures.
