‘Significant works need to be carried out’ – Meath council to take charge of 35-year-old housing estate

A residential estate in Navan is set to be taken in charge by Meath County Council, with a proposal expected to be presented to councillors in the first quarter of 2026.

The move follows a motion by Fine Gael Councillor John Duffy at the November meeting of Navan Municipal District, where he called on the council to progress the taking-in-charge process for the original development, which has existed for more than 20 years.

The council confirmed that the Planning Department has received a valid plebiscite from the residents of Beaufort Place and is currently examining technical issues on the ground, with a view to advancing the process next year.

Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Duffy welcomed the update. He said on social media: “This has to be welcomed given the inordinate length of time – in the region of 35 years – since building commenced in Beaufort Place.”

"Significant works need to be carried out at this stage in the estate, such as road surfacing and footpath repairs,” Cllr Duffy added.
