Shoppers and retailers need the gift of free parking to boost footfall in Navan this Christmas

An Independent councillor has called on Meath County Council to take measures to attract shoppers to Navan for the upcoming Christmas season.
At the November meeting of Navan Municipal District, Councillor Francis Deane urged the council to make “a strong effort to attract shoppers” to the town.
He said: “Welcome signage should be conspicuous on all approach roads to the town to advertise where parking is available, including one-hour free parking or park-and-ride.”
“Retailers have experienced much pain during the works carried out under the 2030 plan, and it would be important to encourage as much footfall as possible to our town,” he added.
In a written response, the council confirmed that one-hour free parking is already available in Navan and will continue over the Christmas period.
They also said that Meath County Council’s Transportation Section will work with Meath Chamber, the Mí Meath Shop Local Scheme, the Communications Section, and the Economic Development Section to publicise parking options and promote Navan and County Meath “as a preferred shopping destination.”
