Road in Meath to close for a number of weeks as part of major water infrastructure upgrade

Motorists in Meath are advised of an upcoming temporary road closure on the R153 between Kentstown and Navan, as Uisce Éireann begins the next phase of works on the Duleek to Navan Trunk Water Main Project.
The R153 will be closed from the R153/R150 junction in Kentstown to the R153/R147 junction in Navan from 7am on Monday, July 28 to 7pm on Friday, August 22, to facilitate permanent road reinstatement works.
Local, signposted diversions will be in place throughout the closure period. Access for emergency services, residents, businesses, and property holders along the route will be maintained at all times. Residents have already been notified in advance of the disruption.
Importantly, this closure will not take effect until the stretch of the R153 from Kentstown to Balrath Crossroads has been reopened.
The works are part of the ongoing Duleek to Navan Trunk Water Main Project, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at securing the drinking water supply for homes and businesses in Navan.
The new 16-kilometre trunk watermain will connect the Staleen Water Treatment Plant network (just south of Duleek) with the Proudstown and Carn Hill Reservoirs, which serve the Navan area.
Uisce Éireann’s William McKnight said: “We would like to thank the community for their continued patience and cooperation as we deliver this essential infrastructure for Navan and apologise for any inconvenience these necessary works may cause.”
“This critical infrastructure will maintain supply in the event of planned or unplanned disruptions at the Liscarton Water Treatment Plant and will support development in an area that has seen unprecedented growth in recent years,” he said.
Meanwhile a dedicated Community Liaison Officer remains in place to keep local residents and stakeholders informed of progress and traffic updates as the works continue.
