Repairs have saved up to 10,000 litres of water daily amid leakage and pressure issues in Dunboyne

Savings of 10 cubic metres per day have been recorded from repairs carried out in Dunboyne, as Uisce Éireann steps up efforts to tackle leakage and stabilise water supply in the area.

This equates to roughly 10,000 litres of water being saved each day that would otherwise have been lost through leaks, helping to ease pressure on the local network.

In recent months, residents in Dunboyne have experienced ongoing issues with water pressure and supply, prompting a targeted response from the utility.

Find and Fix repair crews have been deployed across the village to identify and address leaks, with several faults already repaired on mains, valves, hydrants and supply pipes.

According to Uisce Éireann, teams remain in the area to locate further leaks, while residents are being urged to report issues, including those on private property.

Michael Cunniffe, Uisce Éireann Water Operations Manager in Meath, acknowledged the supply challenges in the village, which he said are related to network management and leakage.

“We are acutely aware that there are supply challenges in Dunboyne. We have addressed operational issues and targeted leakage detection in recent weeks as a measure to support us addressing overall pressure,” he said.

“We have deployed additional crews and specialist technology to identify leaks. This is bearing fruit, enabling us to identify individual large-scale leaks and complete several repairs to date.”

"This work is continuing, and we ask for the cooperation of local businesses and homeowners to support work across the village.”

Alongside repair works, reconfiguration of the network were carried out to improve water flow, including adjustments to pump settings at the Loughsallagh pumping station to boost pressure at peak times while protecting the system during quieter periods.

Improvements were recorded in areas such as Kilbreena and Plunkett Hall, while upgrades to the Millfarm estate connection also led to better pressure.

Further works are planned along the Summerhill Road to improve supply to Plunkett Hall and Luttrell Hall.

Uisce Éireann is also engaging with "high-end users" in the area to explore off-peak usage arrangements in a bid to reduce strain on the network.

“Water is a valuable resource,” Mr Cunniffe added. “So finding and successfully repairing these leaks is of paramount importance to save water and ensure we can provide a reliable supply.”
