Public invited to have their say on proposed road improvement scheme in Meath

By Sylvia Omorodion, Independent.ie

Residents in Meath have been invited to have their say on a proposed road infrastructure project in one of the county’s towns.

Newtownmoyaghy Road Improvement Scheme in Kilcock will involve a range of works designed to improve local road infrastructure and address drainage and safety concerns in the area.

The proposed development includes the diversion of the Newtownmoyaghy Stream across agricultural grassland to the northeast of the existing road, with the existing channel to be piped, infilled and topsoiled.

A new culvert would be installed under the Newtownmoyaghy Road to reconnect the diverted stream to its downstream channel.

The plans also provide for agricultural crossings over the new channel, the widening and upgrading of the existing carriageway, alterations to one residential entrance, the creation of new agricultural entrances, and the installation of associated drainage infrastructure, boundary treatments, road surfacing, signage, markings and landscaping.

A Natura Impact Statement (NIS) has been prepared in respect of the proposed development to assess its potential effects on the environment.

According to the notice, plans and particulars of the proposed works, including the NIS, will be available for public inspection until Friday, November 28, 2025, at three locations: Meath County Council’s offices at Buvinda House in Navan; the Municipal District of Ratoath Office in Dunshaughlin; and the offices of An Coimisiún Pleanála at Marlborough Street, Dublin.

Meath County Council wishes to seek approval from An Coimisiún Pleanála to carry out the development. Members of the public may make submissions or observations free of charge to An Coimisiún Pleanála in relation to the proposed development.
