Proposed Ratoath civic centre, park and age-friendly housing goes on public display

Plans for a new civic centre, amenity park and age-friendly housing in Meath have been proposed and are now on public display.
The proposal was discussed at the November meeting of the Ratoath Municipal District in Dunshaughlin.
Councillors were updated on the development, which would include a new civic building, landscaped public open spaces, and 14 single-storey, two-bedroom bungalows designed specifically for older residents.
The project also incorporates accessible and electric vehicle parking, secure bicycle storage, bin storage, public lighting, drainage works, and all associated site works at Main Street, Ratoath.
Independent Councillor Yvonne Everard raised concerns about the placement of the housing at the rear of the site, suggesting it could increase the risk of anti-social behaviour. She also described the park as being too small to serve the community.
Architect Denise Curtis responded, saying that placing the housing at the back would improve security through passive surveillance. Each house would have two dedicated car parking spaces and that lighting would be installed to further deter anti-social behaviour.
The proposal is now on public display. Plans and particulars can be inspected at the Ratoath Municipal District Office, Meath County Council offices in Navan, or online via the e-planning portal. Submissions regarding the development may be made until January 12, 2026.
