Proposed bus stop in Meath to enter 18-month trial period despite local concerns

A proposed bus stop on Boreen Keel in Navan is set to go on an 18-month trial period.
At the October meeting of Navan Municipal District, councillors were updated on the proposed bus stop infrastructure.
It was confirmed that the National Transport Authority (NTA) has decided to reroute the Navan town bus service along Boreen Keel to improve journey times.
Meanwhile, Meath County Council will proceed with the temporary set-down stop at the location, with a review of the trial scheduled after 12 months.
In July, the local authority launched a public consultation on the installation of new bus stop infrastructure along Boreen Keel.
The scheme includes a new in-line bus stop near Nos. 6 and 7 Emmet Terrace, featuring Kassel kerbs, road markings, a bus stop pole and flag, a carousel display unit, and protective bollards, all designed to enhance accessibility, safety, and visibility for bus users.
Speaking after the meeting, Navan Aontú councillor Emer Tóibín said on social media: “It’s disappointing to see decisions made at national level take priority over many of the concerns local people have in this part of Navan.”
According to the councillor, many local residents have their concerns about the suitability of a bus stop at this location as “the road and path are narrow”.
