Plans lodged for new 20-truck Park development in Meath

By Sylvia Omorodion, Independent.ie

Plans for a new park to accommodate 20 “articulated and rigid body tipper” trucks have been proposed for Meath.

Sorcon Plant Ltd submitted a planning application to Meath County Council for the development of a new truck park, ancillary maintenance and office facility, and associated site works at Primatestown, Ashbourne, Co. Meath.

The proposed development will occupy a site of approximately 2.37 hectares and is said to be designed to support the growing logistics and construction demands in the region.

The development will feature an area of 5,829 square metres to accommodate circulation and parking for 20 trucks, along with 22 staff car parking spaces and storage for ancillary plant and machinery.

A four-bay maintenance building of 284.68 square metres is planned for the storage and light maintenance of the trucks, complemented by a 478 square metre concrete apron on the southern side. Surface water management will be addressed through an attenuation pond, petrol interceptor, and associated infrastructure.

Meanwhile access improvements include the upgrade of the existing entrance from the R155 Regional Road to create a dual entrance serving both the domestic dwelling and the new parking facility.

The entrance will also be enhanced with sightlines, boundary adjustments, and a 120.6-metre access road within the curtilage of the existing dwelling.

Entrance gates and two-metre-high walls will run along the full length of the road, with the existing domestic garage being demolished to accommodate the new access.

Part of the existing dwelling, measuring 48.34 square metres, is proposed for change of use into office space to support the truck park and maintenance facility, while 85.97 square metres will remain residential.

The offices will have five dedicated car parking spaces, with two additional spaces reserved for the dwelling.

The existing septic system will be replaced with a proprietary wastewater treatment system and polishing filter to serve both the dwelling and the new facility.

Landscaping is also proposed throughout the site, including to the north of the truck park and along the R155 frontage, to provide screening from the N2 National Primary Road.

A Natura Impact Statement (NIS) has been submitted with the application, to show consideration for environmental impacts.
