Plans lodged for major extension at Dunshaughlin Community College in Meath

By Sylvia Omorodion, Independent.ie

Plans have been lodged to construct a new two-and three-storey extension at Dunshaughlin Community College in Co Meath.

The application, submitted by the Louth and Meath Education and Training Board on February 13, proposes a development covering approximately 11,405 sq m on the existing school site.

The project on the post-primary school would involve the phased demolition of three single-storey college buildings currently in use, to facilitate the new extension.

The proposed development includes a range of modern energy features such as roof-mounted solar photovoltaic panels, heat pumps and air handling systems.

Plans also provide for 98 new car parking spaces and five coach bays, as well as covered bicycle shelters for up to 140 bicycles.

A temporary single-storey accommodation block of approximately 500 sq m is also proposed during the construction phase.

Additional elements of the development include five new outdoor hardcourts, an external store building, and upgrades to internal access routes for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians serving both the college and the adjoining community sports centre.

The plans also include new entrance gates onto Drumree Road, site lighting and associated landscaping works.

A temporary construction access route through Dunshaughlin and Royal Gaels GAA Club is proposed, which would be removed once works are completed.

The planning application is now under consideration.
