Plans for sand and gravel washing plant in Meath get green light

By Sylvia Omorodion, Independent.ie

Plans for a sand and gravel washing plant in Meath have been given the green light by Meath County Council.

The approved development in Naul, submitted by Kilsaran Concrete Unlimited Company, will serve the company’s existing readymix concrete plant on the eastern side of the R108 regional road.

The project includes extraction, washing, screening, and crushing of sand and gravel, along with storage, stockpiling, and haulage to the concrete plant.

The total extraction area will cover approximately 6.2 hectares and will be worked and restored in phases over 11 years, with an additional year allocated for final restoration.

The site will ultimately be returned to a beneficial agricultural use, with topsoil and overburden materials stripped, stored, and reused during restoration.

Access to the site will be through the existing agricultural entrance onto the R108, which will be upgraded.

Improvements include setting back the boundary wall, upgrading internal access tracks, and installing a new weighbridge. Ancillary works will be carried out within a total application area of 14.9 hectares.

Meanwhile, an Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) was prepared in connection with the application, and significant further information and revised plans were submitted during the planning process.

Meath County Council granted planning permission on November 6, 2025.
