Plans for 223 new homes and crèche in Navan granted green light

Plans for a large-scale residential development have been given the green light in Navan.

Meath County Council granted planning permission for 223 new homes and a crèche at Athlumney, Alexander Reid, Ferganstown and Ballymacon.

The approved development will deliver a mix of 155 houses and 68 apartments, designed to provide a balance of family homes and smaller units in line with local housing needs.

The scheme includes 26 one-bed, 50 two-bed, 138 three-bed, and 9 four-bed dwellings in total.

All houses will be two storeys in height, while the apartments — arranged in five blocks — will range between three and four storeys and feature simplex and duplex own-door layouts.

Meanwhile, a two-storey crèche of approximately 443 square metres will also be built as part of the development, featuring dedicated car parking and a safe set-down area.

The planning approval includes extensive site development works, such as land reprofiling, drainage upgrades, public lighting, and landscaping of open spaces.

It will also provide three ESB substations, bin and bicycle storage, car parking, and a temporary foul water pumping station and rising main.

Access to the new Navan housing development will be via a spur road from an existing roundabout on the LRD6 distributor road, north of the site.

A second vehicular and pedestrian connection will link to a separate residential development to the north and northwest.

The scheme will connect directly to the Gort Na Glaise estate through new vehicular and pedestrian links, requiring the culverting of part of a drainage ditch and removal of hedgerow and sections of boundary walls.

It will also deliver new pedestrian and cycle links onto the LRD6 route, with a pedestrian crossing point planned on Old Road to the south of the site.

A footpath and cycle path will run along the western boundary, enhancing access and connectivity in line with Masterplan MP12.

The project is part of a wider pattern of large-scale residential developments in Navan, reflecting Meath’s population growth and the continued demand for new homes across the county.
