The investment will see improvements under a range of schemes, including the Strategic Rehabilitation Regional Road Scheme, Bridge Rehabilitation Scheme, Climate Change Adaptation Scheme, Safety Improvement Works Scheme, the Strategic Regional and Local Road Grant, and the Specific Improvement Grant.

The total funding announced by the government for Meath amounts to €35,678,244, with €26,862,000 allocated to regional roads and €8,816,244 to national roads.

Some key elements of this year’s investment include €500,000 allocated to the R156 Mullagh Cross and €350,000 for the Julianstown Bypass.

Fine Gael councillor Sharon Tolan welcomed the allocation, particularly the additional funding for the Julianstown Bypass Scheme.

"This will allow this crucial project to proceed to Route Option Selection and copper fastens the commitment of Meath County Council to pursue a solution for the 22,000+ vehicles that travel through this village daily,” she said.

“I will continue to champion this project all the way through to construction, for local residents, for hard-pressed commuters and businesses that continue to suffer from congestion at peak times and speeding traffic at off-peak times,” Cllr Tolan added.

Fianna Fáil councillor Caroline O’Reilly also welcomed the investment, highlighting local projects including the €500,000 for the R156 Mullagh Cross and €50,000 for the L6210 Newtownmoyaghy safety improvement works.

“Road safety must remain a priority,” Cllr O’Reilly said. “These works are about protecting lives, improving junctions, and keeping our communities connected.”
