Over €218,000 awarded to Meath churches and heritage projects

The funding, a total of €218,098.75, will support the conservation, repair and promotion of four archaeological monuments and historic sites across the county.
The allocations include €130,000 for Ardcath Church, €28,615.95 for Newhaggard Gatehouse, €29,660 for St Peter and St Paul Church, and €29,822.80 for St Patrick’s Cathedral in Trim.
Welcoming the allocation, Fine Gael senator Linda Nelson Murray said the investment would provide a significant boost to local communities.
“Today’s announcement is a real boost for communities in Meath who care deeply about local heritage. This funding ensures monuments which have shaped towns and villages for generations will be protected, restored and made accessible for all,” she said.
“I am especially happy to see funding in Trim for Newhaggard Gatehouse and St Patrick's Cathedral.”
The Community Monuments Fund, first established in 2020, supports initiatives to conserve, maintain and protect local monuments, while also promoting public access and improving their presentation.
The scheme also aims to build resilience by helping to safeguard historic sites from the effects of extreme weather and climate change.
“These grants help owners and custodians of archaeological monuments to safeguard them into the future and improve access,” Senator Nelson Murray said.
“People in communities across Meath work tirelessly to protect local monuments and historic sites. Their dedication is the reason these monuments continue to help enrich communities,” she added.
