Over 2,300 homes receive planning permission in Meath

By Sylvia Omorodion, Independent.ie

A total of 2,342 homes received permission across the county in 2025, as part of a wider increase in planning approvals nationally.

Fine Gael Senator Linda Nelson Murray said the figures show efforts to increase housing supply are beginning to have an impact.

“These figures show thousands of new homes are moving through the pipeline in Meath,” she said.

“The key focus now is turning these permissions into homes on the ground as quickly as possible.”

CSO data shows planning permissions for housing increased by 7.9pc nationally over the same period.

The Meath West senator said obtaining planning permission is a “crucial step” in delivering new housing and that the Government is "removing barriers to construction” so projects can move from planning to homes “as quickly as possible.”

She added that increased housing development in towns and villages across Meath would help strengthen communities and address shortages in many areas.

“There’s more work to do, but these figures demonstrate the progress being made in Meath and Government remains focused on increasing housing supply and delivering the homes people need,” she said.
