Only a quarter of €3m Kells roads budget spent so far

Only a quarter of the €3m allocation for road improvements in the Kells Municipal District has been spent this year, Meath County Council has confirmed.
The figures were released in response to a question from Sinn Féin councillor Peter Caffrey, who asked officials to clarify how much of the extra funding had been spent in 2025.
According to the council, 26pc of the allocation — approximately €811,000 — was assigned in August from the authority’s Additional Own Resources fund. The money was directed specifically towards road restoration and improvement works in the Kells district.
Council officials said they expect the full €3m allocation to be spent by year-end.
“The Transportation Department will continue to work on these schemes until the end of 2025 and would not be in a position to calculate the final outturn costs until year-end reconciliation has been completed early in 2026,” the council said.
