One Meath district saw three Tenant-in-Situ acquisitions completed in 2025

There were a total of three Tenant-in-Situ acquisitions completed in 2025 for the Navan Municipal District, officials have confirmed.
A Tenant-in-Situ scheme allows tenants to continue renting their home if their landlord is selling the property. This is because either the local authority or the Housing Agency steps in to buy the property from the landlord and continues to rent it to the tenant.
At the December meeting of the district, Aontú Councillor Emer Tóibín sought clarity from Meath County Council on the total number of properties purchased under the Tenant-in-Situ scheme in the Navan Municipal District to date in 2025, as well as how many eligible applications were declined and the primary reasons for refusal.
In response, the Housing Section confirmed that three properties were acquired under the scheme this year, with completions recorded on June 1, September 1, and November 1.
The council also reported that four other Tenant-in-Situ applications across the county “could not be progressed".
Three of these were due to the poor structural condition of the properties, while one was stalled as an agreement with the landlord could not be reached. Currently, five Tenant-in-Situ cases are ongoing.
“It should be noted that where a Notice of Terminations is served and contact made by the tenant, other prevention work and housing options are explored by the Settlement team to resolve the situation before a Tenant in Situ acquisitions is considered,” the local authority said.
