NUA Healthcare seeks permission for new community residence with five care units in Meath

Ireland’s leading provider of residential care for individuals with intellectual disabilities and mental health conditions is proposing a new community residence in Meath.
NUA Healthcare Services has lodged a planning application with Meath County Council seeking permission for a significant redevelopment at a property on Flemington Road, Gormanston.
The proposal involves converting an existing dwelling to a community residence and constructing five additional single-bedroom residential care units on the site.
The application, submitted on November 7, 2025, also seeks approval to demolish a rear extension, shed and greenhouse. In their place, NUA Healthcare plans to build a new rear extension to the house and develop the five care units.
The project further includes revised access arrangements, an updated site layout, landscaping and the installation of a new wastewater treatment system.
Meanwhile, during the summer, NUA Healthcare handed over a new community garden to the people of Gormanston – the village of the proposed residence.
According to the provider, the idea for the garden began in 2023 when members of the Gormanston Community Association visited Abbey Blooms Botanical Gardens & Café in Multyfarnham – an initiative run by NUA to promote inclusion, wellbeing and social connection.
The group saw “firsthand how a thoughtfully designed garden could bring a community together and create lasting impact”.
The planning application for the new community residence is currently under consideration by Meath County Council.
