‘No one should ever feel afraid in their own home’ – Public meeting called after firework attack in Kells estate

A public meeting will be held in Kells this week following a “disturbing” incident in which fireworks were used to “terrorise" residents in an estate.

Local Peace Commissioner Cormac Corr said he was “deeply angered and saddened” to learn of the events that happened in Rochford estate, which left one resident injured and caused damage to homes and vehicles.

“This latest incident marks another occasion where a local estate has been directly targeted,” Mr Corr said.

“No one should ever feel afraid in their own home. We cannot allow this kind of behaviour to become normalised or dismissed as mischief.”

“This is not ‘fun on the green’ — it is a deliberate attempt to intimidate and frighten decent people who simply want to live in peace.”

The public meeting will take place this Wednesday at 7p.m. in the Headfort Arms Hotel, Blackwater Suite.

Mr Corr said the meeting will be open to all residents and will provide an opportunity for people to share their experiences, express their concerns, and help identify ways to restore a sense of safety and confidence in the community.

He added that he has invited all elected representatives to attend, stating that their presence “will be important in ensuring that the voices of local residents are heard directly by those in positions of public responsibility.”

Urged residents to take part, Mr Corr said: “The more people who come forward, the stronger our collective voice will be in ensuring Kells remains a town where everyone feels safe, respected, and heard.”
