A new 3v3 basketball court is set to be installed in Laytown, marking a significant boost to local recreational facilities in Meath.

Councillor Sharon Tolan announced the development on social media. She said: "I have been working with Meath County Council and Meath Local Sports Partnership for the past 11 years to help provide more opportunities and facilities for sport and activity here in East Meath.”

Meath Local Sports Partnership (LSP), established by Sport Ireland in 2002, is one of 29 local partnerships across the country designed to support sport and physical activity at the community level.

The new court, expected to be completed this month, will be open to the public and is particularly aimed at encouraging young people to get involved in physical activity.

“This month we will be installing a new 3v3 basketball court in Laytown for public use. I’m looking forward to seeing this great new facility get plenty of use," Cllr Tolan said.

"This project is for everyone, but especially geared towards our young people. I hope it’s enjoyed by many and becomes a positive hangout spot."

Cllr Tolan also thanked the Area Engineer and ground staff for preparing the site, and expressed her appreciation to Meath LSP’s CEO, Mary Murphy, for “her ongoing efforts to increase participation and provide opportunities for people to be active.”
