New pedestrian crossing planned for Drogheda–Duleek road in Meath

A new pedestrian crossing is to be installed in Meath - on the R152 Drogheda–Duleek Road near Wolfe Tones GFC.
South Drogheda and East Meath Fianna Fáil councillor Stephen McKee said the project has been approved after lobbying for improved road safety in the area.
“I am pleased to announce that a new pedestrian crossing will shortly be put in place on the R152 road close to the grounds of Wolfe Tones GFC,” Cllr McKee said.
“I have been lobbying hard for a safe crossing at this location for a period of time now, so this will come as good news for residents.”
The road is frequently crossed by children and families accessing the club grounds, but locals say the stretch has long been unsafe due to fast-moving traffic.
“A new pedestrian crossing will make it much safer in slowing down traffic on this section of the Drogheda–Duleek road and will hopefully encourage more families and children from neighbouring areas such as Avourwen and Lagavooren Manor to walk to the club grounds,” Cllr McKee said.
He also paid tribute to Wolfe Tones GFC for “working closely with me to highlight this matter and successfully pursuing it.”
Meath County Council plans to put the project out to tender early in the new year, with a target completion date of mid-2026.
Cllr McKee said he intends to “keep the pressure on” to ensure the works remain on schedule.
“Improving road safety is an important issue for me locally, and I will continue to highlight areas where action is needed.”
"More needs to be done further up on the R152 at Duleek AFC Soccer Club and, of course, the Beamore Road continues to be a priority for me.”
