New app set to reward Meath residents for time outdoors

Residents in Meath can now earn rewards simply by spending time outdoors, following the launch of a new community-focused app.
Meath County Council has introduced the Civic Dollars app, which allows residents to earn virtual rewards by visiting parks, beaches and other public spaces across the county.
Users can collect “Civic Dollars” by checking in at designated locations, with activities such as walking, running, cycling and attending community events helping to build credit that can be redeemed for rewards or donated to local organisations.
The initiative is also designed to benefit community and voluntary groups, which can receive donated Civic Dollars from residents and exchange them for practical supports.
The scheme forms part of wider efforts to promote healthier lifestyles and strengthen community engagement, and is supported through the Healthy Ireland Fund, with additional backing from local community bodies.
Welcoming the launch, Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council Wayne Harding said: “Civic Dollars is about strengthening community life in Meath. It rewards people for getting involved locally, supporting one another, and taking positive steps for their own health and wellbeing while building stronger, more connected communities.”
Seamus McGee, chair of the Meath Local Community and Development Committee, said the initiative offers a new way to support local groups.
“Civic Dollars represents a fresh and exciting way to encourage people to spend time outdoors and explore Meath’s public spaces, while supporting the voluntary groups that are the backbone of our communities,”
Nicky McDonnell of PPN Coordinator for Meath added: “This initiative turns simple outdoor activities into meaningful contributions to community wellbeing. A win for residents, community groups, and the environment.”
Healthy County Coordinator for Meath, Aisling O’Donnell, said the scheme would also support mental health and wellbeing.
“Strong communities are central to good mental health. Civic Dollars helps create opportunities for connection, purpose, and prevention, which are key to supporting positive mental health and wellbeing across all ages.”
The Civic Dollars app is free to use and is available to download via app stores.
