Nearly €200,000 approved for five recreational projects in Meath

Five recreational projects in Meath are set to receive a funding boost totalling €198,800 under the latest round of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS).
The announcement was made by Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD.
Each project will benefit from approximately €40,000 in funding, aimed at enhancing walking trails, upgrading facilities, and improving accessibility for both locals and visitors.
In Balrath Woods, €39,600 will fund upgrades to the existing walking trails, while the Deerpark Walking Trail will also receive €39,600 for widening works, resurfacing, and improvements to its car park.
A further €40,000 has been granted to repair fencing and replace kissing gates along the walking trails on the Hill of Lloyd, and another €40,000 will go towards upgrading the surface along the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway between Glackenstown and Knightstown.
Meanwhile, €39,600 has been approved for assessments and surveys to bring to the planning stage works that will develop and connect existing trails at the Littlewood Forest Trail.
This investment is part of a wider €8.7 million nationwide funding package to enhance outdoor recreation across Ireland.
Minister for Youth and Education and Meath East TD Helen McEntee welcomed the news on social media and said: “We have so many great recreational amenities here in Meath, and it’s important to get out and make the most of what’s on offer.”
