Navan Tidy Towns relaunched with call for volunteers

An effort to enhance the cleanliness and appearance of Navan has begun with the relaunch of Navan Tidy Towns.
The relaunch, announced by Councillor Emer Tóibín, was marked this week by the group's first clean-up operation, with local volunteers already taking to the streets to improve the town’s public spaces.
Cllr Tóibín said they are now launching a major recruitment drive to encourage wider public participation.
Quoting the head of Irish Businesses Against Litter (IBAL), the Navan councillor noted: “Any town relying solely on the council to stay clean, won’t be a clean town."
“We all have a part to play. That’s why we’re delighted to announce a relaunch of Navan Tidy Towns,” Cllr Tóibín said.
A recent report from IBAL ranked Navan as "Moderately Littered" by international standards. The town placed 28th out of 40 towns across Ireland in terms of cleanliness.
At the June meeting of the Navan Municipal District, councillors voiced growing concern over widespread littering in the town and called for a public campaign or local initiative to encourage residents to take responsibility for keeping their community clean. Relaunching tidy towns efforts across the county was one of the suggestions that the councillors supported unanimously.
Cllr Tóibín is now inviting residents to join for a variety of reasons— “Whether it’s for fun, exercise, social interaction, or a sense of achievement, not to mention a cleaner and more attractive Navan, look no further than Navan Tidy Towns,” she said.
Interested individuals are encouraged to follow the Navan Tidy Towns on social media for updates and information.
“Get involved. Be part of something positive,” Cllr Tóibín urged. “Together, let’s take pride in our town. The brush is waiting.”
