More safety upgrades planned for Beamore Cross junction in Meath

Interim safety improvement works on the R108/L1611 Beamore junction in Meath are underway, councillors have been told.

At the September meeting of the Laytown-Bettystown Municipal District, Fianna Fáil Councillor Stephen McKee asked for updates on road safety along Beamore Road.

In response, Meath County Council confirmed that options and designs for interim improvements are being developed, with consultants appointed for the Bey More Junction Improvement Scheme and the feasibility and options phase already in progress.

The council added that the Department of Transport Support Office (DoTSO), using Road Safety Authority data, has identified the L-16111/L-56131 (Mounthanover junction) as one of 26 “Locations of Interest” that could benefit from low-cost safety interventions.

Funding for improvements at these priority locations is expected through the Department of Transport’s Safety Improvement Works Grant Scheme in 2025 for implementation in 2026.

Recent measures have included a review of junction signage in 2024, which resulted in additional signs and refreshed road markings.

Meanwhile, routine maintenance of signs, lines, and verge cutting continues regularly to ensure ongoing safety for road users.
