Public CCTV cameras are set to be installed in Old Johnstown Village in Meath under a scheme approved by the Commissioner of An Garda Síochána, a local councillor has said.

Aontú councillor Emer Tóibín confirmed that three cameras will be positioned at the junction of Old Johnstown Road and Oldtown Road, a busy area that has raised ongoing concerns among residents.

“This is a new development for local residents and businesses. For some time, concerns have been raised about anti-social behaviour, road safety, and general security in the area,” the Navan councillor said.

“The CCTV scheme aims to act as a deterrent to crime and anti-social behaviour, support Garda investigations where incidents occur, and improve safety at the junction, providing reassurance to families and businesses in the village.”

Meanwhile, Cllr Tóibín said she is awaiting confirmation of the exact activation date for the cameras.
