Meath residents invited to shop at Trim Christmas craft fair and ‘support our local artisans’

Meath Made, the county’s creative collective of local artisans and designers, will host its first-ever Christmas craft fair in Trim later this month.

The inaugural “Creates at Christmas” event will run from Friday evening, November 28, to Sunday, November 30, at the Swift Cultural Centre.

The three-day fair will feature handmade products from across the Royal County, with organisers promising a festive atmosphere complete with live music, mulled wine and mince pies.

The venue will also be professionally styled for the occasion, creating what organisers describe as a “magical ambience” for Christmas shoppers.

The event opens at 6pm on Friday with a performance by the Ballivor Community Gospel Choir, before the public is invited to browse a wide range of craft and design pieces, including woodwork, ceramics, textiles and other locally made gifts.

On Saturday and Sunday, the fair will run from 10am to 5pm and will feature 18 stalls showcasing work by Meath-based makers. Items on offer will include handwoven textiles, artisanal soaps, candles, small furniture pieces and framed artwork.

Organisers say the fair is designed to promote sustainable shopping and to create opportunities for the public to meet local craftspeople. Visitors will be able to speak directly with makers, learn about their processes and find personalised gifts ahead of the festive season.

Anita Reynolds, chairperson of Meath Made, said the event aims to offer an alternative to the commercial pressures of Christmas.

“This craft fair is designed for anyone wishing to escape the over-commercialisation of Christmas while shopping sustainably. We aim to create a sensory experience that includes beautiful music, the scent of natural pine decorations, and the taste of delicious mince pies,” she said.

Meath County Council chief executive Kieran Kehoe encouraged the public to support the county’s creative sector this festive season.

“This Christmas, I encourage everyone to shop local and showcase the incredible talent we have right here in County Meath,” he said.

“By choosing to support our local artisans, you not only find unique, high-quality gifts for your loved ones but also contribute to the vibrancy and sustainability of our community.”

Admission to the fair is free, and families are welcome.
