Meath home to be renovated for social housing following council CPO

By Sylvia Omorodion, Independent.ie

Meath County Council has taken a step to bring a vacant home in Bettystown back into use as social housing by issuing a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) for the property.

The order, made in April 2025 and approved by An Comisiún Pleanála on July 4, 2025, gives the Housing Authority the right to acquire the property located at Eastham Court to support its social housing target.

The council has formally notified the property owner and any other parties with an interest in the land.

Property owners are asked to engage with the Housing Authority within four weeks to discuss the purchase and any compensation that may be due.

The property itself is a dwelling house with a garden, covering approximately 0.012 hectares.

This move forms part of the local authority’s ongoing efforts to renovate vacant homes and increase the availability of social housing across the county.
