Meath County Council moves to acquire two vacant homes for social housing

By Sylvia Omorodion, Independent.ie

Meath County Council has issued notices of its intention to acquire two vacant residential properties in Dunboyne and Trim, aiming to bring them back into use as social dwellings.

The properties in question are located at Castleview, Dunboyne, and St Brigid’s Villas, Trim. Both homes have been vacant and have now been issued Compulsory Purchase Orders (CPOs), if confirmed by An Coimisiún Pleanála, they will be repurposed to help meet local housing needs.

The proposed acquisition in Dunboyne involves a mid-terrace house situated on approximately 0.014 hectares. According to the order, the identities of any lessees or current occupiers are not known.

In Trim, Meath County Council has identified the property for acquisition. This property sits on approximately 0.032 hectares. Similarly, lessees or occupiers have not been confirmed.

Maps for both properties are available for public inspection at Buvinda House in Navan and at the respective Municipal District Offices in Dunshaughlin and Trim during normal office hours.

Anyone with legal interest in either property — such as owners, lessees, or occupiers (excluding short-term tenants of less than a month) — has the right to lodge an objection to An Coimisiún Pleanála by Friday, September 12, 2025.

If objections are raised and not withdrawn, the Board cannot confirm the CPOs without first holding an oral hearing. However, under Section 218 of the Planning and Development Act, 2000, the Board also reserves discretion on whether or not to hold such a hearing.
