Meath County Council celebrates 'Your Council Day' by showcasing staff

By Sylvia Omorodion, Independent.ie

Meath County Council will join local authorities across Ireland this Friday to mark Your Council Day, a nationwide campaign celebrating the essential work carried out by councils and the people who deliver services in communities every day.

The campaign, coordinated by the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) and supported by all 31 local authorities, highlights the vital role councils play in areas such as planning, community development, local democracy, and economic growth.

This year’s theme, Building Stronger Communities, is said to focus on how councils create “environments where people feel connected, supported, and empowered.”

To mark the occasion, Meath County Council will spotlight a range of staff and their contributions to local life.

Among those featured will be Litter and Dog Warden Alan Nolan, Lifeguard Brendan Geraghty, General Services Supervisor Jonathan Hoey, Senior Library Assistant Rebecca McKeever, and Retained Firefighter Sarah Weldon.

Chief Executive Kieran Kehoe said the day is an opportunity to recognise the breadth of work undertaken across the county.

He said: “We are proud to support the building of stronger communities each and every day through the over 1,000 services we provide to our communities in Meath. The exceptional work of our Library Service, Lifeguards, Litter Wardens, Civil Defence, Fire Service, and Outdoor Workers, which will be shared on Friday, is just a tiny snapshot of the phenomenal work carried out across our entire organisation on a daily basis."

Meanwhile Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council, Cllr. Wayne Harding said: "The wonderful thing about Your Council Day is that it serves as a valuable and powerful reminder of the vital role the Council plays in the everyday lives of its citizens.”

He added: “At Meath County Council, we are committed to excellence with every single service we provide so that we can build stronger communities for the people we proudly serve. Every single day, our staff are out maintaining parks, roads and beaches, working to provide housing, and supporting local businesses and community groups.”

"More than anything else, I am honoured today to celebrate their vital contributions to our communities."

Members of the public are invited to follow the day’s activities on Meath County Council’s social media platform.
