Meath athletic club pushes ahead with major sports complex as new plans lodged

By Sylvia Omorodion, Independent.ie

Plans for a major new athletics complex in Trim have been lodged with Meath County Council.

Trim Athletic Club is seeking permission for the second phase of its proposed development. The application, lodged on December 17, 2025, includes the construction of a modern single- and two-storey sports facility building fitted with solar roof panels, as well as an expanded outdoor athletics arena.

Phase 2 includes a six-lane 200-metre running track, a six-lane 100-metre sprint track, and a 500-metre perimeter running and walking trail.

Additional field event infrastructure — long jump, high jump, javelin and shot put — forms part of the proposal, supported by new track and field lighting.

Provision is also made for car parking, a set-down area, bicycle parking and a secure perimeter fence with both pedestrian and vehicular access. The project includes connections to existing services and a range of ancillary works.

The club said the new application includes revisions to, and builds upon, the previously approved Phase 1 works, which focused on establishing the core layout of the site.

Phase 1 permitted the installation of secure boundary fencing, entrance gates, a 300-metre six-lane track, a six-lane 100-metre sprint track, a 500-metre walking and running loop, changing pods, lighting, parking areas and full field event facilities.

A Natura Impact Statement was submitted with that earlier application.
