Major progress on Ashbourne Skatepark and Public Park projects revealed

Progress on the Ashbourne Linear Park and Public Park projects was outlined during the July meeting of the Ashbourne Municipal District, following a query from Sinn Féin councillor.
Councillor Helen Meyer asked for an update on the Public Park and the Skatepark in Ashbourne.
In response, Meath County Council confirmed that the Ashbourne Linear Park — which includes the new skatepark — is expected to be completed by mid to late August. Final landscaping works will follow in October to align with seasonal planting requirements.
Construction of the skatepark is scheduled to begin in mid-July and will take approximately three weeks. Surfacing of paths and the car park will commence within the next two weeks. Meanwhile, the pedestrian bridge is currently being painted and is due to be installed in the coming weeks.
Earlier this year, Meath County Council announced the start of Phase 2 of the Ashbourne Linear Park development. This phase was said to extend along the Broadmeadow River, from Ballybin Road through Castlelands, Killegland, and Deer Park — forming a key part of the town’s expanding green infrastructure.
Phase 1, completed in 2019, introduced a new play space, an amphitheatre, and a pedestrian footbridge linking the park to Ashbourne’s town centre.
Regarding the Public Park development, the council confirmed that an archaeological geophysical survey has been completed. The Paul Hogarth Company has been appointed to prepare a conceptual plan for the area. A draft scheme will be presented to Ashbourne MD members in the third or fourth quarter of 2025, followed by a period of public consultation.
