Major progress made on public spaces as part of Navan 2030 works

Several public spaces in Navan undergoing extensive upgrades are soon to be completed, as part of the delivery of the Navan 2030 project.
Local councillor, Emer Tóibín took to social media to confirm that works at Fairgreen Car Park and Old Cornmarket are now entering the final stages, with extensive landscaping nearly finished.
Public lighting and CCTV installation have begun ahead of the planned removal of overhead power cables on Fairgreen.
“New kerbing works and paving has commenced on Fairgreen to the front of the St Mary’s Church and these works are scheduled to continue past the front of the St Annes Loreto Primary School until the end of next month,” Cllr Tóibín said.
These upgrades include the removal and undergrounding of overhead cables, new public lighting, and a watermain upgrade.
Another key milestone was reached at Old Cornmarket, which has now been fully paved.
“The section in front of Staunton’s Pharmacy is now open to traffic, marking another significant milestone in the delivery of the project,” the Aontú councillor said.
Meanwhile, progress continues at the Old Sheep Market on Church Hill, where underground services, reinforced concrete foundations, and granite paving are being installed. Historical restoration remains a strong focus of the works.
Cllr Tóibín said: “Restoration and reuse of historical paving has been prioritised in an effort to preserve the character of the area, and a historical ‘Well’ uncovered during excavation, is being reconstructed as a key area feature in this location by skilled stone masons.”
According to the Navan councillor, paving works in the Sheep Market area are due to begin following the August Bank Holiday, with the reconstruction of the well expected to be complete beforehand. Paving is anticipated to take two weeks, after which work will begin on reopening paid car parking bays starting the week of August 11.
Final road surfacing on Church Hill and Fairgreen Road is scheduled to be completed by the end of September 2025, with two-way traffic expected to resume by November 2026.
The final major component of this phase will be the enhancement of Bakery Lane. Works are scheduled to begin on Monday, August 11, and will include new paving, upgraded utilities, public lighting improvements, and landscaping.
“These works will be delivered in three phases, with temporary pedestrian diversions in place during the construction period,” Cllr Tóibín added.
