Major expansion approved for St Joseph's Mercy Secondary School in Navan

Meath County Council has granted planning permission for a significant expansion and refurbishment project at a catholic school in Navan.
The development, proposed by the Catholic Education Irish Schools Trust, will enhance educational facilities at St Joseph's Mercy Secondary School.
The approved project involves the partial demolition of the existing school building to make way for a new, modern extension. The new structure will be a mix of three storeys and single storey elements, housing five new classrooms, a PE Hall, a GP (General Purpose) dining area, specialist teaching rooms, toilets, storage facilities, and various ancillary spaces to support teaching and learning.
In addition to the new extension, the plans include the refurbishment of the historic Mount Saint Carmel Building, which is a protected structure. This part of the project will also see the addition of a single-storey extension to the building.
The Catholic Mercy school with over 700 students will also see improvements to the external environment of the school, including the creation of a new soft play area, landscaped outdoor spaces, and additional car parking to accommodate increased capacity.
